Literacy Initatives and Projects

International Projects  International Project: TLC (Trinidad & Tobago)  -- Trinidad and Tobago’s Literacy Connection’s (TLC) goal is to support literacy in the island nation’s schools one at a time.  This year’s school that FRA will be assisting is Egypt Village Government Primary School located in the town of Point Fortin in South Trinidad.. 
Book Hook
Book Hook Project: In this contest you enter your short paragraph or two which seeks to get the reader to want to read the book you are trying to sell.  Your Book Hook does not tell the entire book but it does give the reader enough information that they get an idea of what the book is about. (currently under revision) 
FRA Children's Book Award

Pre-Kindergarten through Second Grade students  participate in voting for the Florida Children's Book Award. The books nominated must have been copyrighted within the last five years and be currently in print.  Once students have read or heard the nominated books, their votes are tallied. Results will be announced on the FRA web site and in the FRA newsletter. The winning books will be honored at the FRA Conference


Family Literacy

Family Literacy Project: Support students' literacy development and success through Family Literacy. Parents and children learn best when learning together. Family literacy can provide families with the tools they need to foster their children's success. Learn more about how parents and educators can work together to support students' learning.

Florida Book Map Project
Adolescent Literacy Project: The Florida Reading Association invites you to recommend novels that teens and tweens enjoy and which take place in Florida settings. Join FRA in celebrating our sunshine state through adolescent literature by submitting your suggestions. Read Florida!
Motivation Matters: Quick Tips for Adolescent Literacy
Motivation Matters is a place to let us in on your successful experiences as well as a place to collect new teacher tested approaches.

Poster Contest

Poster Project: Students in middle and high schools in Florida are invited to create a reading poster to be exhibited and judged at the Florida Reading Association’s Annual Conference in the fall.

Reading Question Cards

The Reading Question Cards are available for you to use with reading activities such as literature circles, book clubs, reading discussion groups, or just to enhance a student's daily reading. There are both fiction and non-fiction cards.  There is an on-screen random card generator or you download the cards for printing.
