The Florida Book Map Project is designed to help Florida
teachers, reading coaches, and students find high interest books that take place in Florida.
The Florida Reading Association invites you to recommend novels that teens
and tweens enjoy and which have Florida settings and you have
found to be of high interest. Join FRA in celebrating our
Sunshine State through adolescent literature by submitting your suggestions
to this resource. Submissions will only be used to create a Florida Teen
Book Map available on the FRA web page. Thank you for being a part of this FRA
Adolescent Literacy project.
Choosing literature that has stories that take place in
Florida is a must for any library in the region. Students enjoy reading
and hearing stories about people and surroundings that are
familiar them. Students will be more inclined to read books with stories
they can relate to and understand. The best books will have
familiar elements, even if new to the students. The
characters in these stories will face situations that
the students may be familiar with, or at least have
heard of. Use this tool to increase student
participation and enjoyment of literature.

characteristics that define Florida as a region.

modified by the values, traditions, and actions of
various groups who have inhabited the state.

cultures have influenced Florida’s history.
5. understands how Florida has allocated and used
resources and the consequences of those economic
decisions.
The student understands the interactions of people and

and cultural interaction and their impact on
