FRA has eight standing committees.  They include the Executive Committee, composed of the Executive Board; the Council Development Committee, composed of the District Directors and the IRA Coordinator; and six other committees that are divided into two categories:  Organization Committees (Administrative, Membership, and Program) and Project Committees (Governmental Relations, Studies and Research, and Publicity & Publications).  Each member of the board actively participates on at least two committees at each board meeting and throughout the year.  The following is a listing of some of the committees general charges.  Each year specific charges are added, based on the goals of the president.

    1.    Executive CommitteeSubmit your committee minutes

            a.     Prepare the annual budget.

            b.     Supervise and review the work of all committees.

            c.     Approve the agendas for FRA Board meetings and for 
                    the Delegates Assembly and Leadership Sessions.

    2.    Membership Committee

            a.  Make plans to secure new members in local councils, 
                 FRA, and ILA.

            b.  Perform other responsibilities as directed by the 
                Membership Committee chairperson.

            c.  Prepare a written report for the FRA Board to insert 
                in the minutes and in the FRA Newsletter.

    3.    Program Committee

            a.     Plan the annual FRA Conference

            b.     Plan other meetings as may be authorized by the 
                    FRA Board.

            c.     Update the Conference Handbook every three years.

            d.     Continue FRA's involvement in International Projects.

            e.     Identify sites for future conferences.

    4.    Governmental Relations

            a.     Study and disseminate all information concerning 
                    changes in legislation and certification which may 
                    affect the teaching of reading.

            b.     Prepare a written report for the FRA Board meetings 
                    to insert in  the minutes and in the FRA Newsletter.

    5.  Literacy Projects

a.      Coordinate FRA-initiated projects and activities that reach
          out to the local and international community.

b.      Coordinate efforts to reach out to various groups of literacy stakeholders
          (university/college instructors and students, families, early literacy and
          secondary teachers, reading teachers, coaches, supervisors, and administrators).

    6.    Studies and Research

            a.     Encourage the study of important issues in reading.

            b.     Promote the understanding of the purpose of research.

            c.     Disseminate reports of research throughout Florida.

            d.     Prepare a written report for the FRA Board meetings 
                    to insert in  the minutes  and in the FRA Newsletter.

            e.     Encourage classroom action research.

    7.    Publicity 

           a.     Produce and disseminate publications and other public relations.

    8.    Publications

            a.  Direct and supervise FRA publications

            b.     Produce and disseminate publications and other public relations.

            c.     Serve in a consultative relationship with ongoing FRA publications.

            d.     Prepare a written report for the Board to insert in the minutes and
                    in the FRA  Newsletter.

   9.    Administrative Committee

            a.     Conduct the election of vice president-elect.

            b.     Serve as Bylaws and Policy Handbook Committee and
                     make recommendations for revisions and/or amendments
                    to the FRA Board as needed.

            c.     Review scholarship and award applications and present
                     recommendations to the FRA Board for approval.

            d.     Prepare a written report for the FRA Board meetings to 
                    insert in the minutes and in the FRA newsletter.

    10.    Council Development Committee

            a.     Organize new councils and stimulate the continuing activity 
                    of existing councils.

            b.     Assist councils to carry out their duties.

            c.     Prepare a written report for the FRA Board meetings to 
                    insert in the minutes and the FRA newsletter.

            d.     Conduct an annual Leadership Conference/Workshop.
